Lower Your Gas Bill with these Money-Saving Tips

Would you like to stay warm without breaking the bank this winter? Don’t worry – There are lots of small things you can do to lower your energy consumption. Let us show you how! This blog post will walk you through the main rooms in your home and list a few easy heat-saving tips for each.

Kitchen:

Stoves and ovens make us think of warmth, but if you’re using the exhaust fan, you’re also removing heat from your home. Remember to turn off the exhaust fan when your meal is ready so that you don’t lose that precious heat.

Pre-heating the oven is essential to baking holiday goodies. Many ovens pre-heat more quickly than people realize – some are ready in as little as five minutes. Keep an eye on your oven while it’s pre-heating, and be ready to pop-in those cookies as soon as the oven is ready. Every minute of unused heat is a minute of energy that could be used somewhere else.

BostonGlobe.com reports that you can save up to $40/year by avoiding oversized stove burners. Save the big boys for the large pots and pans.

Living Room:

Concrete and hardwood floors can be lovely, but they can also allow heat to escape. Cover floors with rugs when possible. This will help the heat to remain in your home as well as keep feet warm.

Draperies aren’t just for decoration. They can be great tools to heat and cool your home. Open the curtains and let in the sun while it’s shining. Trap the heat in your home when the sun goes down by simply closing the curtains.

Don’t forget the blankets! Keep blankets close-at-hand to make it easy for loved ones to bundle up. No one will ask to turn up the heat if they’re already warm under a blanket.

Bathroom:

Tile floors and ceramic surfaces can make the bathroom one of the coldest rooms in the house. Remember to turn off the exhaust fan as soon as you’re out of the tub. Not only does the fan remove moisture, but it also removes much-needed heat.

Consider a heated towel rack to make your transition from the shower as painless as possible. A warm towel can make a chilly bathroom seem much more bearable.

Bedroom:

Would you like to sleep tight all winter without cranking up the thermostat? Consider a heated mattress pad (or even a small heating pad). Just make sure it meets current safety standards, as some older models are known to overheat.

Keep your toes cozy with a soft pair of socks. Warm feet help to warm your entire body, even on the coldest nights.

We hope these ideas help you to have a warm and safe winter. Happy holidays from everyone at Provision Power and Gas!
